Postgraduate education involves learning and studying for academic or professional degrees, academic or professional certificates, academic or professional diplomas, or other qualifications for which a first or bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma generally is required, and it is normally considered to be part of higher education.
Post graduate degree encompasses a range of qualifications that require an undergraduate degree to be considered for entry, these include courses at Post Graduate Diploma level all the way to a PhD.
Postgraduate degrees are taken for a number of different reasons, such as to move into academia and research or to specialise a career path or change track entirely.
FLED Graduate University
In Nigeria, there is a huge demand for post-graduate education. Even though there about 197 universities in the country, 99 of which are privately-owned, none of them is a specialised graduate university, focused on providing graduate education to those that require them desperately. The situation is made much more difficult for those seeking graduate education because of the erratic academic calendar in Nigeria's Public Universities, while the conventional Private universities grapple with low carrying capacities.
It is against this background that FLED Graduate University is proposed.
FLED Graduate University is expected to be the first specialised private University in Nigeria to provide Postgraduate education.
The quest for the establishment of FLED Graduate University is in continuation of the vision of the Incorporated Trustees of Foundation for Leadership & Education Development - FLED Foundation- to provide advanced educational opportunities to produce world-class transformational leaders with requisite intellectual capacity and leadership skills to address development challenges in Nigeria and Africa.
FLED Graduate University - FGU - shall be an advanced institution of multidisciplinary learning and research, preparing highly skillful and pragmatic industry leaders, political leaders, and academic leaders for the transformation of Africa.
The University shall be a hybrid institution leveraging on the power of digital technology to offer Post-graduate programmes in the areas of Media/Journalism, Education, Entrepreneurship, Business, ICT and Digital Technology, Politics & Governance, and allied fields.
The establishment of FGU aligns with the current vision of the National Universities Commission for the setting up of specialized private Universities, particularly to help meet the huge demand for postgraduate education in Nigeria.
As part of efforts to actualise the University project and to engage in related projects, FLED Foundation has launched a US $9.4 million Institutional Development Fund - IDF-2025.

Purchase of Application Form from the National Universities Commission - NUC - with N1m.
June 2022
Submission of Application Form.
November 2022
Payment of N5m to NUC for Visitation.
November 2022 - November 2023
Development of Academic Programmes; Provision of Initial Infrastructures for Administrative and Academic Activities; Visitations from NUC.
January - June 2024
Continuation of infrastructural development; Approval and granting of Provisional License.
November 2024
Commencement of Academic Activities at FLED Graduate University, Abuja.
